HISTORY 

+Since its launch in December 2014, the Fast-Track Cities initiative has empowered more than 600 cities worldwide to lead bold, data-driven, and community-centered responses to HIV, tuberculosis (TB), and viral hepatitis. What began with a pledge by 26 city mayors has evolved into a global network focused on holistic urban resilience – marked by milestone achievements in HIV target attainment, innovations in transparent data use, and vibrant city networks sharing effective interventions and bold strategies.

• From 26 cities originally, the network grew to over 300 by 2019 and now supports 600+ cities, illustrating vast expansion in local urban health leadership.
• Several cities have surpassed established global HIV targets, reflecting successful data-informed implementation and persistent public health leadership.
• City dashboards, transparent reporting, and inclusion of community stakeholders have established a new model for equity-based public health responses.
• Global conferences, summits, and workshops  have catalyzed peer exchange, spotlighted best practices, and strengthened cross-city collaboration.

As the Fast-Track Cities network begins a new decade of progress, it is advancing into a new era. Fast-Track Health and the Fast-Track Cities Institute are expanding efforts to include other infectious diseases, integrating a wider focus on non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and addressing the health impacts of climate change within urban ecosystems. This expanded remit underscores an evolving vision: resilient, equitable cities where transparent leadership and evidence-based practice ensure health for all.
